I don’t think that there is any other character in the fashion industry who can compete with the legendary Iris Apfel. Her eccentric personal style and an impeccable taste for details, color patterns and an extraordinary jewelry collection has overshadowed most of the powerful personalities in contemporary fashion.
I just watched a recent documentary film about Iris, which was done by the famous Albert Maysles (Grey Gardens, Gimme Shelter).
This film is more than just a peek inside her endless collection of the expensive haute couture garments and one-of-a-kind pieces of art and furniture at her apartment in a beautiful Park Avenue building.
It is an insight into a life of an unyielding, strong and powerful 93-year-old woman who always refused to follow anyone’s rules and standards, long before she became a fashion icon.
The documentary film is filled with a few intimate moments that Iris shares with her husband Carl who by the way just turned 100 years old! I’ve learned about their strong respect for each other and love that binds them for many decades and I am very inspired/impressed by their story.
I shouldn’t really tell you the rest of the film, you have to watch it yourselves, I guarantee you will fall in love with this woman. And if you haven’t heard of her yet, you need to watch this documentary about Iris!
The film will be opening in Montreal on Friday, May 29th at Cinema du Parc.
